  1. When preparing to film a video commercial, the first step is to define your message with crystal clarity. Ask yourself: what is the main idea you want viewers to take away in the few seconds or minutes they’ll give you? Whether it’s highlighting a product, sharing your brand story, or delivering a call to action, having that single, focused message will guide every decision — from the script to the visuals. You should also have a clear understanding of your target audience so we can style the tone, pacing, and imagery to match what will resonate with them most.
  2. Next, you’ll want to prepare all the visual and logistical elements before we even step on set. That means securing your location(s) and making sure they’re clean, well-lit, and free of distractions. If props, products, or branded materials will be in the shoot, they should be in perfect condition and ready to go. Clothing choices matter, too — solid colors often work better than busy patterns, and they should align with your brand identity. If people will appear on camera, it’s helpful to brief them in advance so they feel comfortable and know what’s expected.
  3. Finally, consider the details that make a big difference during filming. If we’re shooting on location, think about background noise and the time of day for the best light. Have a plan for weather if we’re filming outdoors. Make sure everyone involved has the schedule in advance, and leave time for retakes. The more organized and prepared you are, the smoother the filming process will be — and the more polished and impactful the final commercial will look. My job is to bring your vision to life, but the groundwork you lay before the cameras roll can be the difference between “good” and “unforgettable.”
